How Wind Energy Works

Wind power is a highly efficient and reliable source of renewable energy. As long as the wind is blowing, your turbine is producing electricity.

The blades of a wind-electric turbine are designed to capture the kinetic energy of the wind. When the blades rotate, they move a shaft that is connected to a generator, where the rotational energy is turned into electricity. Harnessing wind energy is similar harnessing hydro-electric energy.

Wind is produced day or night in the sun or under cloud cover. An ideal wind electric system can be combined with a solar electric system for optimal energy production.

There are times when there is no wind yet the sun is out. During those times the solar electric system will produce electricity. The inverse is true of the wind turbine which will create electricity at night and on cloudy days.
